Specify the jacket and core separately

Enquire about encapsulated O-rings from AKVT in Malaysia. Send the existing part reference, inside diameter, cross-section and jacket/core requirement. The supplied construction and dimensions must be confirmed in the quotation.

Manufacturer ranges use a seamless FEP or PFA jacket around an elastomer core such as FKM or silicone (VMQ). These are distinct from a solid PTFE O-ring or a thin PTFE-coated elastomer ring. Freudenberg describes these constructions separately. Freudenberg: FEP/PFA encapsulated O-rings.

AKVT’s listing does not identify a verified jacket grade, core grade or size schedule. If these are unknown, send the equipment specification or original packaging for review. Do not assume that every manufacturer combination is available from AKVT.

Dimensions for a replacement

Specify inside diameter (ID) × cross-section (CS), with units. Also send the groove drawing, tolerances and whether the original ring has a solid or hollow core. A nominal example is “50 mm ID × 3 mm CS”; it describes an enquiry format, not an available size.

Manufacturer minimum inside diameters depend on cross-section and construction. Confirm the proposed combination rather than selecting ID and CS independently. Freudenberg: dimensions and construction.

Use the O-ring measuring guide to identify dimensions. Label measurements from a damaged or distorted sample and include the housing dimensions.

Application and installation review

For a static chemical-process flange or housing enquiry, provide chemical name, concentration, pressure or vacuum, continuous and peak temperature, cleaning cycle and groove details. Suitability depends on the complete seal and duty.

Freudenberg excludes dynamic, abrasive and high-pressure applications for its encapsulated range. ERIKS recommends static use and requires suitability testing for dynamic service. The jacket needs protection from sharp edges, excessive stretching and tight bending. Follow the selected manufacturer’s assembly procedure and check groove access before ordering. ERIKS: installation guidance.

Selection questions

Is “Teflon O-ring” enough to order?

No. State whether the requirement is an encapsulated ring, a solid PTFE O-ring or another construction. Include the actual material designation.

Is every encapsulated ring food-contact approved?

Request the applicable declaration for the exact supplied jacket/core combination. A general manufacturer brochure does not certify an unidentified AKVT part.

Which temperature rating should I use?

Ask for the rating of the quoted construction under your operating conditions. Do not apply a general FEP, PFA or FKM temperature figure to the complete assembly.
