Rubber cord and silicone cord enquiries

Enquire about round rubber cord from AKVT in Penang for delivery requirements across Malaysia. Specify the material, cord diameter and required length. For silicone cord, state VMQ and the required compound or application; ask us to confirm the available grade and size before ordering.

Choose the material for the medium

NBR, EPDM, FKM and silicone are different elastomer families. A material name does not establish resistance to every oil, chemical or temperature. Provide the fluid or cleaning agent, concentration, temperature and exposure conditions for selection review.

For silicone cord, the ERIKS VMQ reference describes ozone and UV resistance but excludes mineral-oil service for that particular product. Treat this as a selection example, not a specification for AKVT’s cord. ERIKS: VMQ precision cord.

Diameter, length and tolerance

Specify round-cord diameter in millimetres or inches, followed by the required length and quantity. Measure an undeformed sample gently at several points without squeezing the rubber. Include the groove drawing if the old cord is flattened, swollen or stretched.

Example enquiry: “Round cord, 5 mm diameter, 2 m continuous length, quantity 3; material and hardness to be confirmed from the attached application details.” These are example dimensions, not a stock size.

State the required diameter tolerance and Shore A hardness if your drawing specifies them. Ask for confirmation of the supplied tolerance, minimum order and continuous length. AKVT’s current listing does not include a verified diameter or reel-length schedule.

Continuous cord or a finished ring?

Tell us whether you need loose cord, cut lengths or a finished joined ring. For a finished ring, give inside diameter and cross-section plus the drawing and joint requirements. Availability of each supply form needs confirmation.

A glued joint is not equivalent to a moulded endless O-ring. ERIKS limits glued cord to static, unpressurised sealing and distinguishes it from vulcanised rings. Ask for application review when pressure, vacuum or movement is involved. ERIKS: cord and joined-ring guidance.

Applications and buying questions

Can cord be used for an enclosure or cover gasket?

Share the cover drawing, corner geometry, environment and compression requirements. A static cover is a useful application to review; it does not establish that every cord material or joint will seal it.

Can I select silicone by colour or request food-contact use?

Colour is not a compound specification. State the required compliance and request documentation for the actual supplied material. A general silicone description is not evidence of food-contact approval.

What should I send for a quotation?

Include diameter, length, quantity, material or medium, hardness and tolerance if known, joint requirements, temperature, pressure, delivery postcode and required date. Confirm specification and lead time in the quotation.
